About

The Artist

Largely self-taught, Lindsey started her artistic career as a pastry chef, eventually owning and operating a bespoke cake decorating company in Brooklyn, New York. After 20 years in food, she made a departure. She went back to school and earned her Master’s in Art Therapy from Pratt Institute in New York. However, shortly after the Covid pandemic, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a full-time artist herself.

Given her lived experience, along with her work as an art therapist, Lindsey believes in the enormous healing power of art. By adding color, shape, line and movement onto each piece, her work attempts to make the invisible, visible. This is experienced both through the process of making the work and the resulting image the viewer takes in. With each piece, Lindsey hopes to evoke an emotional or felt sense from the viewer. Thereby puting each viewer in closer connection with the ineffable sides of themselves. Lindsey believes that when we are more deeply connected to ourselves, we gain compassion and empathy for all. Which then allows for healing in this often divisive world.

The Artwork

My artwork explores the interplay of contrasts – the juxtaposition of hard and soft, old and new, chaos and control. Delve into where these apparent contradictions intertwine in perfect harmony. As you engage with my pieces, you’ll witness a delicate balancing act of color and contrast, meticulously crafted to unveil a certain sublime beauty within imperfection. My hope is not to direct the viewer or their experience, but rather to allow it to unfold.

Each piece contains contemporary art techniques and marks with old books, typography, and ephemera. Together, these elements weave a narrative of connection and continuity, bridging the gap between generations past and present. Together, they speak to a universal language of abstraction, expressing a profound revelation of the human experience. All while transforming the once discarded into cherished treasures.

For me, these materials are not just a means of expression, but a profound homage to the past. They symbolize a reverence for history, a nod to the stories embedded within each crease and fold. Within this delicate balance of old and new, my work speaks of resilience and renewal. Join me in discovering the profound connections that emerge when opposites dance in unity, offering a glimpse of the sublime within the mundane, and a timeless expression of love and honor through the universal language of art.
